News Roundup: Blizzard on Survival Hunter Changes, Frost Mage DPS, Lightwell
With the latest batch of PTR data revealing some
very interesting changes
, players are now doing what they do best and complaining about some of these tentative buffs and nerfs on the official forums!
Today, Blizzard poster
Bashiok
has elected to tackle some of the angry forumgoers and offers some insight onto recent decisions affecting various classes and the balancing thereof. Also, Zarhym clarifies that Lightwell has not actually been nerfed - we can all rest easy now.
We'll probably be seeing more clarifications and reasoning over the next few days as we await tonight's full
PTR patch notes
update, so be sure to follow the latest blue posts with our

and on the

Upcoming 4.0.6 PTR Shaman Class Changes Preview
Blizzard poster
Zarhym
has just posted a peek at some upcoming updates to the official
PTR Patch 4.0.6 patch notes
, including a batch of
Shaman
changes! According to him, we should see the patch notes updated at some point tomorrow evening, so stay tuned! For now, shaman changes!
Those changes were only announced in the context of warlock changes. I recognize though that the first draft of patch notes did not yet have shaman changes listed. In light of that -- and to hopefully dissuade you all from invading the warlock forum about the changes I listed there -- below you'll find the tentative shaman notes. The patch notes will likely be updated to include these changes tomorrow evening.
Shaman
Chain Heal
's effectiveness has been increased by approximately 10%.
Hex
now has a PvP duration of 8 seconds.
Purge
now dispels a single effect instead of two.
Tremor Totem
has been redesigned. The totem is now u

4.0.6 PTR Patch Notes Updated - New Meta Gems!
Malgayne pointed it out
earlier
, but I wanted to draw more attention to the fact that, last night, Blizzard updated their
Patch 4.0.6 PTR Patch Notes
!
Notable changes include:
All guild banners now reward bonus reputation in addition to honor and experience.
Archaeology fragments now have a hard cap of 200 per race. Players will not be able to collect additional fragments until they complete artifacts to take them down below 200 fragments. Players with more than 200 fragments will not lose additional fragments in 4.0.6, but in a future patch we may remove any fragments above 200.
Meta gems with the Chaotic and Relentless prefixes now have a requirement of 3 red gems.
New meta gems have been added: Agile Shadowspirit Diamond (Agility/3% critical damage), Reverberating Shadowspirit Diamond (Strength/3% critical damage), and Burning Shadowspirit Diamond (Intellect/3% critical damage). These new recipes are unbound and can drop from any Cataclysm creature. The new meta gems have a requirement of 3 red gems equipped.

Patch 4.0.3 Now Live, World Not Destroyed Just Yet
Patch 4.0.3 is now available for download via the Launcher
, and with it comes some rather not-so-interesting (though well-appreciated) changes.
This is not the major pre-Cataclysm patch featuring the changed world
(a.k.a. The Shattering). That patch (4.0.3a) will likely come in the next few weeks. In addition, this patch does not activate new class/race combinations or any other major Cataclysm changes. However, there are still a few things worth mentioning!
Cataclysm Trailer Cinematic Button Added to Login Screen
There's now a button on the Wrath of the Lich King login screen's Cinematics menu which allows you to watch the Cataclysm cinematic trailer.
However, apparently this button doesn't work yet. Oh well, in the meantime there's always YouTube...
Deathy's Animations Fixed!
As we

A Brief Aside: StarCraft II Patch 1.1
So while Wowhead has not yet become SCHead, Blizzard's space RTS is still a game I play frequently and one I watch the news about. And one of the more important and recent news is that the first somewhat big patch was released on
Tuesday, September 21
- that's just yesterday, yes.
Here is the basic idea of the not-so-groundbreaking changes. Zealot rushes from a proxy Gateway are a little too powerful, especially against a Zerg (you know, 'cause rushing a Terran with their choke full of buildings
can
be done...), so the build time of the Zealot is being increased. Warp Gate cooldown also goes up for those of you who love spending 4,000 minerals in less than a minute by dropping a million Zealots. The Terran is getting a few (deserved, in my opinion) nerfs - longer build time on Reapers and Barracks, and less damage on Siege Tanks and Battlecruisers. Similarly to this, the Zerg Ultralisks' are having their base damage lowered, and their anti-building attack (Ram) goes away and is being replaced by their basic attack.
Let me give you the full patch notes aft
