you miss the point entirely here.they do not flow at-all with the spec its that simple and do not complement anything. If we where 'meant' to use a ranged weapon in a macro then you should be able to use kill shot with it however you cannot this is MELEE weapon ONLY then we have tranq shot, which again requires a RANGED weapon. i mean, there is no thought to the implementation and as part of the hunter community we are frankly shocked they at least (THE VERY LEAST) have not sorted out the spell classifications for the spec.on top of that some spell classifications are for 'pole arm' so we cannot even use some of our past weapons now in this beta at this point in time.
I've basically mained as Survival since I started playing and it's been so all over the place for years. I still enjoy the spec though, but since they are giving us back some ranged spells and such, I'd like to be able to equip a ranged weapon and a melee weapon at the same time instead of swapping them out constantly. I've been playing a bit on PTR and it just seems like a pain. It would be nice to have something akin to what we had during Wrath or even Cata, in combination with what we have in BfA. Even if they somehow figured out how to balance out the stats from carrying a ranged and melee weapon at the same time (or, you know, we could be similar to other classes that dual wield) make our ranged weapon an off-hand maybe? I don't know, but I do know that I wish that survival would get a little more love, because it's actually a fun spec to play ... it just needs a bit of tweaking to make game play more smooth in the spec.
Melee survival is a problem because it leaves ranged hunter with only two specs. If you want to be ranged BM is instant and MM is more caster but they are both underwhelming in arena. Feels Bad. If you want to be melee Survival is the only melee spec. Underwelming in M+ and Raids. Feels bad. If you play PVP and PVE its going to feel bad.Why cant all 3 hunter specs be melee or ranged (only swap-able when rested). Give us options and more play-style choices. I want to play a bursty ranged physical class like LK MM but I don't think someone else needs to lose what they want to play for that.
A return to the “traps” spec would help with the identity issue, and some of the GCD vacancies. Even just some utility/dps abilities with short CDs like Cantrips would be a boost. I like Wildfire, but it replacing Explosive Trap kind of lost much of the spec’s identity.
Survival should not go back to ranged.Been maining hunter since 2005 and it really does not need three ranged specs.I'll echo what others have said; make mongoose baseline. On a personal note, I'd love it to be two quick strikes, one high and one low, to give it a bit more of a "snake-killing-reflexes" vibe.Also.. three glyphs to change the serpent sting x-bow into; a blowgun, a throwing knife or an actual thrown snake.Oh and obv. fix the beta focus regen issue.
Survival needs another overhaul. They failed spectacularly with it in Legion, they made it worse in BfA, and it's getting worse in Shadowlands as a result of collateral damage. There's a perfect example of a survival hunter in the game already, too; Rexxar. Make SV use two 1h weapons, make them throw from a distance or swing in melee range, and essentially make them a warrior with a pet. Hell, I'll take anything over the trash we have now. I wanted a melee spec, but of course the monkey's paw had to be the one to hear the wish.
wish survival wasn't as dominant as it is in PVP - when i do arenas on my hunter i want to play a ranged with all the instant casts and mobility that i enjoyed back in the day, but survival is just the dominant meta spec 24/7 and honestly if i'd wanna play a melee id play a warrior yknow
Not worth keybinding outside of PvP. What a fenomenal player to read a guide/feedback from xD
Can't we just have a class toggle or talent that changes our weapons to throwing axes, throwing spears, throwing glaives and swaps to melee damage animation in close range, all the required animations are in the game and we could just transmog current weapons in terms of using models, so 0 work required to make new models for this, they would just change the way the weapon damage is translated, heck they did this with artifact weapon transmogs, where regardless of what you had it changed to that specific artefact animation, but the damage etc. is taken from your actual weapon. Make it so we can transmog bows and guns and crossbows into dual or single melee weapons that we throw instead. They did make that option to swap for casters, you can mog wands into non wands in shadowlands .
just revert the spec back to how it was in wod, melee survival is an abomination that shouldn't exist
I'm seeing some cool ideas here about making survival semi-ranged. Would be awesome if survival was some dual-wielding axe throwing class, that fully functions at range but does like 15% more damage at melee, and the animation automatically changes from throwing axes to using them as melee as you get close while getting more attack speed or something. Damn!
On the note of the possible solutions:Making survival ranged: "a lot of survival players will hate this idea...". 1. I don't think any survival player is going to dislike the spec going back to range. 2. Literally just make it what it was back before it went melee; steady shot builder, arcane shot filler, serpent sting as a baseline dot, explosive shot and black arrow working in tandem with the lock and load passive (black arrow has a chance to take explosive shot off cd or refund its charges and make the next two not cost anything)Unique Utility: survival as a melee already has "unique utility" in that it can literally do the raid utility that the ranged specs can (read, has traps that can be placed remotely up to 40 yrds). Our harpoon is probably tied with DKs as one of the better gap closers. Their's pulls the mob to us, and survival's pulls them toward the mob, both not requiring a path like warrior charge AND it adds a root. What it lacks utility wise is that compared to other melee specs like DH and Monk that apply a magic or physical damage debuff or warriors with their attack power buff, is that we don't have either of those and we can get sidelined because of it. Throughout all of BfA, DH's superior melee dps and its debuff basically ensured it a spot on raid teams. Warriors would tend to take the other spot if a prot warrior wasn't used because of shout being the only way to get the full strength attack power buff.A strong niche: nothing necessarily needs to have a niche role. I personally am fine if survival isn't THE strongest st or THE strongest aoe/cleave as long as it does well in both and isn't complete garbage. Typically being really really good in one means that you should have to suffer in the other (except for the poster child of "perfect" dps, havoc DHs which are one of the best dps period in both regards right now)
