Why this isn't in the Lore and RPing forum is beyond me but basically I agree with the OP. I feel that not only is Varian being shoved at us but he's too one dimensional. Shall I say "cartoonish?" He's too easy to hate and/or dismiss. I'll just cut and paste what I wrote about him in the other forum:
Bring back Bolvar!11

Just accept it guys, blizz would never take away Varian even how much we want it. Just revenge by (for us hordes, might be a problem as alliance) do Storming Stormwind over, and over again.
I think Varian is the best thing that happened to the Alliance. It's high time the Alliance stop taking crap from Thrall's Horde.Thrall is a moron who talks peace but embraces everything that lead the Old Horde down it's dark path. Jaina is a patricidal traitor and a kinslayer. She murdered her father just because she got the hots for Thrall. Jaina really should reconsider getting back with Arthas. They have so much in common - both traitors, both regicides, both of them killed their fathers for their personal benefit.Varian is perfectly right not to trust her or the Horde. Everything he does is for the benefit of his people. And he isn't hot-headed or emo. His critics seem to ignore the fact that he tried several times to make peace with Thrall. And got stabbed in the back each and everytime. How stupid was Thrall to show up for peace talks flanked by Garrosh Hellscream and Varian's ex-slavemaster? And people expect Varian to trust him?Lets see. Thrall worships Grom Hellscream and Orgrim Doomhammer. He carries Orgrim's Hammer and wears Orgrim's armor. He names his capital city after Orgrim D. The same Orgrim D. who lead the Horde during the Second War and killed Anduin Lothar who happens to be one of Varian's father figures. And Varian doubts his sincerity when he makes peace noises. Quelle surprise.Thrall says he rejects the warlike nature of the First Horde but his actions say otherwise. The First Horde was deceived because it was in their nature to be taken advantage off (i.e. they were stupid). They were deceived because of their shamanistic culture. Their Shamans allowed themselves to be deceived by Kiljaeden because they trusted their ancestors more than their common sense. And the orcs allowed themselves to be mislead by the Shamans because they trusted the Shamans more than their common sense. This 'Shamanistic culture' , this superstitious lifestyle which lead to their initial downfall is what Thrall is trying to lead them right back into.Thrall cannot control his people, he cannot control his allies, he cannot control his lieutenants, and he apparently has no clue about what's going on in one of the Horde's capital cities. He is a horrible leader. As for Varian, what he did was perfectly understandable. One might argue that with the threat of the Lich King looming, picking a fight with the Horde is a bad idea. Well, trusting an un-trustworthy people is an even worse idea. A wolf in wolf's clothing is preferable to one in sheep's clothing after all.Even if Thrall's intentions are benign, he's just too incompetent for the Horde to be trusted. The Wrathgate is just one example. In short, the Horde cannot be trusted as an ally, and Thrall cannot be trusted to control them. At this point, Varian trusting the Horde would be reckless behavior.
I wish Blizzard would bring Turalyon back. He wouldn't be as soft on the Horde as Varian.Jaina: Come meet Thrall. He's a good guy whom I've allied with.Turalyon: What's that on your back?Thrall: Orgrim's hammer.Turalyon: What are you wearing?Thrall Orgrim's armor.========================Ten minutes later: Theramore is burned to the ground, Orgrimmar is just a smoking crater and the heads of Thrall, Jaina and Saurfang are on a neat lttle row of spikes in Stormwind Keep.Edit: The guy above is me. I don't know why my browser remembers different logins.
Saurfang is an overated pile of bad Chuck Norris jokes. Turalyon could kill him with his Holy Glare (works real well against demon infested scum like orcs and shaman).
