Multiboxing is not a bad thing all the time. Having bots (yes, this is under botting since you're using a program to automatically input commands to the game) gather extreme amounts of mats or other entities in order to sell and inflate the economy is bad all the time. Blizzard now removed that part.Multiboxing is dead. Now there's just normal farmers that farm on multiple accounts and get a bit more than other accounts. Be happy, Blizzard did an incredibly good thing today!
Multiboxers are using the macro buttons to do much of their actions within multiple accounts on WoW.
What happened the players are using multibots? Multibots are against the terms or services or not.

Y'all are so worried about multi-boxers ruining the economy, why not just revert back to one gather per node, rather than allowing 10 people to gather the same node. That would fix the problem real quick, while allowing people who do other things(farm mog in raids/lvl/rp/wqs/mount farm...) to not have a terrible time doing it with more than one account. Blizz created this problem, and are punishing multi-boxers because of it.
Fools. When Activision takes a 25% loss due to the loss of multiboxers, it will be all they need to stop investing in Blizzard and consider it a high risk. WoW will go the way of all the other MMOs... pay-to-play until it dies altogether. Sometimes it's necessary to rock the boat.... but not if that boat has been sea worthy for almost two decades. Fools.
As a multiboxer with 5 accounts, I am very upset tonight. Mixed emotions. For years people who multiboxed has prosperity. It was not a huge amount of people, and those that did, did very well. It is a big investment of both money and time. Back in Legion I attempted to start it, and I thought then that it was to late to get into it. I did my accounts, got started, and setup RAF and started leveling...2 days later...RAF was nerfed to 50%...literally missed the boat on the old 300% xp easy mode leveling of teams. I stopped it all then. Got burned. So then in BFA I returned to it, and I spent weeks setting up, planning, and writing up a guide, a massive Google docs that I put all my toons, names, levels, even did professions, proud of the work I did with getting all the logistics of leveling/naming/keeping track of 120 toons. So I got started, but trailed off again, because again its a rough paying for 5 accounts a month. I picked up steam with getting gold, and tokens and I was able to maintain it. Then SL was announced. I only bought SL on main account, was not going to need/want to spend 50$ x 4 other account. I'll be playing SL main account anyways. Dont need other accounts for anything. I revived my accounts just prior to prepatch, with the leveling speed and all the new things, is a great time to get some teams done. I started leveling teams last week...Then tonight happened. The only reason I multibox is to use multiple teams/toons to farm transmog, items or mounts. I started in 2005, I felt that the only way I am ever going to get all the mounts, transmog etc that I want was to have multiple toons/teams going each week. I was done doing 1 toon at a time and hoping for drops, and being disappointed week after week...year after year...I wanted to be efficient, and instead of 10 toons on main account, now I could have 60 toons across 5 accounts. 5 toons at a time, 10 runs is 50 toons, instead of just 10 total. And it was helping a lot, especially for Transmog. I've gotten multiple rare mounts, and multiboxing has been FUN its a very different playstyle but it was a really fun experience, micromanaging and figuring things out. I got used to it, had all my keys set up, and I loved logging in 5 toons, hitting those 2k gold emissaries and making 10k gold in 10 minutes. But tonight...that all changes...and now my accounts expire in days, and I wont be renewing 4 of them. I'll just head into SL, knowing it is incomplete dream and it has killed all the progress I was making. All the hours spent, and I did have fun, and got a lot out of my setup...but now once again I feel burned. I dont support those crazy 10+ account mega botting/multiboxers, I dont support those who mega farm herbs/ore etc, or sit for hours doing 5 man afk farming. I didn't even farm herbs, ore. I just wanted lots of toons to throw at transmog and mounts and collecting stuff, far more efficient/faster than 1 account. Multiboxers get a lot of crap, and for good reason, people got to crazy, blizz is justified in this decision, as much as I hate to say that. To many people taking advantage of this, it just is unfortunate for people like myself who were just wanting to get ahead in collecting stuff and enjoying the playstyle and challenges it provided. I took the time and money to set this up, and Its called cheating, botting, and I'm hated on for just doing my own thing and playing like I was.And yes I realize I can still farm and do stuff, but without mirroring you basically just have 4 toons following your main, who dont attack or do anything. You cant kill elites or rares anymore, at least level 50 ones as easily. It makes farming dungeons or raids much more tedious and take much longer. Putting main on follow, often breaks, and it breaks in combat constantly. Good luck tabbing through windows and having to loot on each and every window. It has pretty much killed multiboxing. Leveling toons, in teams was really fun and I loved questing with my team of hunters...now basically just main dragging 4 other hunters...no point. I dont even want to play wow at all for tonight or next few days...much to think about now.
Bots make decisions and input commands based on conditions that it decides for itselfMultiboxing commands are inputted by your direct interaction with a key press. You decide what key to press and when.Broadcasting software is no more "botting" than an in game macro with conditionals. You still have to press a key for an action to happen. The problem come from people using bots to input commands through a broadcasting softwareNow you say "bots use it so it is bad" and you end up punishing people who are not cheating while still not stopping bots because THEY DONT CARE TO GET CAUGHT. They didn't before and they wont after.
So you can still be logged into several accounts but you can't control them all at once? Seems fair to me. Hopefully the market will be a lot healthier now. Good change. 👍
This post seems to clarify the situation where someone plays with multiple accounts but alt tabs and controls them manually. Some people were scared that they were going to be banned by simply owning and playing with multiple accounts. Blizzard clarified that you will only be banned if you use software that automatically replicates the input across all characters.
Alright, I know there's a madman out there building a tool with Legos or K'nex that, when the operator moves in one way, it'll emulate those movements on another nearby computer running each extra account. Still, goodbye to the bad multiboxxing people, and say hello to the ones who straight up earn their ability to play too many accounts at one time.
Multiboxing does not equal botting there is a clear difference, at least that I’ve noticed through out the yrs of engagement with them. Multiboxers are usually two or three accounts and are not malicious just people playing on separate accounts which is not a crime. I’ve spoken with several players and even know friends who “multibox” it’s useful for guilds who have multiple guilds across servers for gms and officers if you are needing to keep an eye on each one. There’s different reasons as to why people multibox, botters are just hackers who purposely go out of their way to harm the community. I don’t know why this hasn’t been clarified or why people think that multiboxing is is “bannable” when it’s never been against their TOS.
So they finally made a decent choice... but then walked back?I guess they got scared of these multiboxers refunding their extra purchases...and it must've been a high number to flat out say this. Which sounds even worse that there are so many multi-boxers waiting to ruin Shadowlands economy from the start. It was bad enough half way through BFA and Nazjatar zones. Think how terrible it will be if they are allowed to pull their bull*!@# from the start.
Blizzard: Multiboxing isnt illegal, making it not pain in the ass by using a program to control all the toons at the same time is. Just keep giving us your money paying for all the accounts. 😎
