I think a good way to add class diversity would be to ban outside buffs, scrolls/drums ect. we would then be require to bring hunters/mages/shamans and revise strats with these classes included.giving mobs/packs that are routinely skipped truesight would help the rogue situationmake hard cc a thing again.. if you don't have ways of dealing with these mobs with, you are in for a bad time
Besides healer balance, battle rez needs to be a healer exclusive skill for M+ content. Why pick a priest when a druid has higher healing, does more damage, has more utility like stealth skips, and battle rez.
Tettles, please, I'm begging you. Don't give stupid people a hope -- where did you get these ideas from?Forcing "class diversity" is as forced diversity is in real life: useless. You're trying to patch Blizzard's fault by forcing people to play what they don't want to. The meta is the meta because Blizzard has failed to balance the classes in M+ and the comps we see are a result of that. Don't treat the symptoms, treat the disease. There should be full freedom in what everyone wants to play. Now, there's a big probability Blizzard will do this: people play the game to soothe their anxiety / depression from real life, mostly due to their failures and that means relatability is a big thing, they need to be able to see themselves in a high spot "wow, that's me" (by extension, their class), so, in an attempt to drive viewership up they'll undermine the freedom the teams have.
I understand what you are saying, but none of this resonates with me.When I watch the MDI I want to see the absolute best performance the teams can put on. If that is triple stacking rogue, so be it. Picks and Bans for classes/specs are an awkward suggestion and don't really belong in a PvE event. Maybe map selection, but it's really awkward to ban the best specs for both teams... and now we are just watching B roll gameplay all around. When I watch MDI I want to see excellent play and strategies that absolutely exceed my own experiences in the live game. The reason I enjoy watching the MDI is because I can relate to the players and content they are challenging. While I may not be as skilled as them running +20's. It sure is cool to watch how another group handled X pull in SoTS that I just did 20mins ago myself at a lower key level. The distance between spectator and participant doesn't feel as great as it does in something like an AWC game. Where the rules are completely different from live and it's clear they aren't even playing the same game as me.
It's so silly to me that Mechagon gear / Engineering stuff isn't available in the MDI. I just do not see how anyone could've thought that it was a good idea. As for stuff they could do to alleviate the 2x or 3x rogue comps, maybe make Shroud give everyone in it a debuff that means they can't be shrouded again for 5 minutes, a bit like Heroism. Then either change the current invis potions to not share CD with other pots just a 5min of it's own, add an item like a mass invis engineering thing (also 5min CD for anyone in it, shared with Shroud) or just straight up remove/heavily nerf shroud. As much as I hate removing fun things and niche utility from classes, Shroud is incredibly powerful, so much so that if they ever want MDI to be more diverse and balanced, they need to do something about it.I reckon that as soon as they make it less impactful, the multiple rogue comps are gonna start rotating out slowly.

How about each spec being available for play by the team only once each bracket? It would get rid of spec stacking and ensure a diverse spread of classes are in play. For example, a team put out the following for map 1;- Protection Warrior- Restoration Druid- Outlaw Rogue- Havoc Demon Hunter- Windwalker MonkThese specs are then unavailable for map 2, so the team puts out something like this;- Brewmaster Monk- Restoration Shaman- Assassination Rogue- Demonology Warlock- Retribution PaladinThen map 3 plays out something like this;- Protection Paladin- Mistweaver Monk- Balance Druid- Unholy Death Knight- Subtlety RogueThese are just examples I've picked out semi-randomly, but I do expect teams would rotate through the Rogue specs since they'd need a shroud, plus other battle-res specs would see play. For the live events, the maps for each bracket could be announced one at a time before each map is played, with teams having a set 15 minutes (for example) to pick their spec composition and gear. Then give the teams only 1 minute before play commences to see what they've each picked before play commences.Does a team go out strong on map 1 with Protection Warrior, Restoration Druid, Outlaw Rogue, Havoc Demon Hunter and Windwalker Monk, aiming for the map 1 win on the off chance the other team goes slightly more conservative, saving some of their preferred specs for map 2?Whilst spec stacking would be prevented, class stacking wouldn't necessarily be. A team could play both Outlaw Rogue and Assassination Rogue specs, but this would leave them without a shroud if play reached map 3.Even with the above, over a full 3 map match you'd still only see each team field 15 of the 36 available specs played.
Giving all healers cr is something I've wanted for a while and would allow more healers to be considered.
an interesting (IMO) way to make diversity somewhat happen would be:> Can't use same spec in one seriesWould prevent same spec from dominating, allow lots more specs show up, with just a little increase in practice required
Better class balance in every aspect (dps/healing/survivability/utility), this is what we need. Current state of class balance is horrible.
I'd be happier if class balance in the main game wasn't affected by MDI/Arena at all.
But the main issue with all of that is that it would significantly increase the skill cap. Not only players would have to know all perfect routes for one comp for all affixes, but also for multiple class combinations. The MDI is already a tournament with major skill differences among the participants, resulting in constant 2-0 in all matches. Doing so would only enforce that, and ensure no over team could even dream of beating Method EU anymore.
Also if they want to see more ranged DPS in M+, they should either significantly nerf all dungeon trash in terms of things it casts and damage it does or give much more utility (mass stuns, slows, interrupts with short CD and so on) to ranged DPS classes so they can counter all that trash equally to melee DPS.
You can jump through hoops with all these rules but it would be more healthy for the overall game if specs were balanced better. The whole niche thing that Blizzard wanted to implement this expansion is an abysmal failure.
I think one of the biggest problems is "sheep mentality". Everyone just does what everyone else does because that's what everyone else does. They don't try new stuff or think outside of the box.I'm reminded of a recent arena tournament like 4 weeks ago where one team took a completely non-meta comp, the casters said there was no way this was going to work and it wasn't "strong" enough (whatever that means), and they wrecked everyone with it. It was a perfect example of someone breaking out of the box that the supposed "meta" puts people in.
A lot of people commenting don't really seem to have properly read or understood the article. Tettles is clearly posting ideas that are generally thrown around, listing pros and cons, but overall concludes that none of these would be particularly good for the MDI. The short version is that it's up to Blizzard to design balanced dungeons and classes/specs. (The engineering subject being the exeception).
As much as I don't like some of the suggestions there, the MDI event is becoming too stale as I'm getting tired of seeing double/triple rogues. The first thing they need to do is to do a proper balancing on all classes and specs. The one thing that I'd like to see is the massive nerf on Shroud. Even though that is a dumb suggestion, it is still a very impacting toolkit. Perhaps either give it a universal Shroud CD for all rogues in a party/raid, give them a debuff that doesn't allow them to be invisible for 5 minutes, or remove the CD from the shroud potions. But lets not forget, the MDI is the competition of who is the best in skills. The suggestions in this article might stifle the freedom for people to choose, and may drive people even more away from the MDI scene. At the same time though, I truly miss the diversity of Legion MDI, at least when DPS classes were more diverse than the double/triple rogues that we are seeing.
Ban rogues.
