Most people already know what decision they want to make - they mostly just want an outside opinion to back them up so they don't feel alone during the process.If you pick the thing they really want to do, you're awesome because you agreed with them. If you pick the thing they don't want to do, they'll argue about it and then choose the thing they really did want all along - but now it comes bundled with the feeling of smug justification since they just argued themselves off the fence and into a decision.So I do exactly what you did - I hedge, give some non committal answer or ask them what they've already thought about so they can tell me all about it - and that helps them refine their OWN argument.I win no matter what since I am now in the "good friend!" category instead of the "I can't believe you talked me into that" instead.
