Personally my issue with crafting the base legendaries is that it feels so wasteful. As others have said even selling them below cost of VENDORING their reagents is hard. Another issue is that many crafters chose to learn a specific set of slots in 9.0 only to have 9.1 come with shards of domination and completely trash those slots. If 9.2 brings tier sets back another slot or two some people have spend hundreds of thousands of gold to max out will also get trashed (legs for all and for some also gloves, possibly cloaks as well). The best thing they could do to make it not this insanely expensive would be to cut back on the cost of vendor mats.
It would shatter the legendary professions market if it refunded the base item and missives
Seriously, how is this fair not to get the base item back? With the changes in Torghast in 9.1.5, you can repeatedly run it all the time to get as many Ash and Cinders as you like. The real inconveniance is the base item, which is REALLY expensive on some realms, in mine for example, it sells for over 450k.So how is this fair exactly? It's like Blizzard people write the comments themselves here..... Professions viable? As long as the WoW Token exists, there will not be real balance in this game ever again. Don't get me wrong, all changes Blizzard makes are welcome atm, but they are forced because of the state of the game and people leaving, and it's they same thing they have been doing for the past 5 expansions. They start beta testing of the expansion, completely disregard what people propose, and after 1 year they give people what they want anyway. But the sad thuth is that as long as the WoW Token exists, it's going to be profit over content most of the times...
Is getting soul ash a problem for people? The base item is the most time and effort costly.I'm poor infame and have no use of more soul ash and cinders, I'd much rather have some gold compensation. Even 2k gold is worth more than 10k soul ash, to me.
Getting a full refund would allow crafters to level up to 4 any item in no time and with minimal costs and that is not wanted…
I guess it's a nice change but soul ash and soul cinders were never the problem for me, indeed I use the cinders to buy sockets. Plus they're now becoming infinitely farm-able. The problem is that the base pieces for ring, neck, and any non-dom socket mail or leather slot still cost upwards of 200-250k on my server which is just not worth it for experimentation or even a marginal throughput increase. There are a mountain of, under vendor price for the mats, low level pieces not selling that people have been forced to make to try level up a new slot again. To help tackle all of this, the scrapper should refund 25-50% of the mats used to make the base piece (honestly who cares about the ash/cinders at this point). This effectively lowers the cost of a base piece: per player (if they sell the mats), for the crafting of multiple low level items as crafters can gain the craft xp and recoup some of the costs and in the general economy as more people can craft the higher level items and the supply of mats will increase.
After buff how to get cinders/soul ash , why make this change ? Also who and why would you destroy legendary anyway ?

Yeah, that's fine by me. there should be a price to pay for crafting a Legendary item.
