It's just a shame people don't use the AH as an actual AUCTION house and make use of the bid system.
Selling tmog is never worth it. You have to list it so often that until you sold it or not you paid more auction house fee than its worth it, more likely you lost money. But no one put this into account.
I have to admit that most of the Golds i got in the lifetime from WoD - end of Legion has been throught trasmog sells (with some bonus Golds through the Prospecting Chips "trick" in Legion), so many that i bought basically all the BS recipes in the game...It took times, but It's been worth. Then i Lost about 30 milioni of auction value due to vacation then i stopped selling mogs. With commodities region-wide most of my Golds now comes from these. Now, with the realm-cross trading, i will try some crafted BS trasmog, sending them to medium / High pop realms and i Will see if i can cath some good profits (i mean, i have basically most of the BS recipes, trying it doesn't hurts)
Trying to sell Transmog 98% of the time is usually a fools errand. Unless it's something super rare or obnoxious to acquire the market for most stuff is almost nonexistent and more often than not even if it's a super rare item you're either going to have to eat a huge part of the cost in the time/relist fees hoping to find that one completionist who has more money than time or end up just taking a pittance to get rid of it. Don't get me wrong if you're the kind of person who has no issue with listing the same item 5000 times and celebrating when you finally sell that item for 100k when you've sunk 35k into listing it on the AH every day for seven months go for it but for me mogs that I already know go right in the bin because it's a giant waste of time.
"A total of 61,501g in transmog sales this week""9hrs 47min"Am I reading this right? He made 61k gold in 9hrs 47min of xmog running? Add in the time it takes to list the items on AH etc. I mean this sounds like a waste of efficient time if you're trying to farm gold. Literally $20 for a token is 290k US or 373k EU. You could certainly make $20 online quicker with various surveys sites etc in 9hrs 47mins than this way. Even if you don't have a regular job. Also have way more gold..
Frankly the only servers worth selling tmogs on are the RP servers. The demand is higher there, but the supply is larger due to everyone else on there doing the same thing. So the profit won't always be that high unless its a highly sought after piece like a Scarlet themed shield. I sell more tmogs on MG and WrA than I do on non-RP servers.Edit: I think you end up making more gold with tmogs when you're not farming for them for profit. I had gotten a ilvl 173 BoE cape from Eternal Palace last night that just sold for 37k profit and I was just there for personal tmogs and achievements with the guild.
The real problem is that extremely expensive items (like rare transmog) can take days, weeks, months or even worse to sell. And if you have any competition, you'll need to be updating the price constantly on top of that.Is it worth farming it? Probably not. Rare items suffer from RNG and take forever to sell. You'll have better luck mass producing useful consumables that will always sell, or even just grinding materials with mining and herbalism. But that's just my opinion. I don't like gambling, and I find fighting with people on the auction house for these kinds of items to be extremely not worth the effort at all when you add it all together.
