They are being way to reserved with Devo on the Beta. Its tuning has been crud since its inception and its been getting hit with nerfs in ST.
My biggest gripe with the change is how Eye of Infinity lost all interaction with our other talents and made some talents a lot less appealing such as: Feed the Flames, Titanic Wrath and Hoarded Power. Could be nice to buff our Essence Burst generators to make these talents worthwhile again.
Pre-nerf Devo was quite fun to play. Now it feels more methodical and less engaging. It isnt necessarily bad, because our AoE looks better now in large pulls, but man it feels so different...
I know this isn't the point of the post, but I feel like none of this matters, since the class is shipping as dead on arrival. You can carve out some niche for it, but if it only has one viable build per spec, and those builds are outshined by the competitors, Evokers will only be played by role players. It's the first target in any Solo Shuffle or Arena match, it doesn't do enough to justify the title of "mobile caster" when other mobile casters do it way better without a range penalty, and man, devastation is especially clunky to play.A nerf to essence burst and a buff to aoe, simply puts it in a place where it has no other viable builds. All the builds are just slight variations of the same niche. Not that there's not other dps in the same situation, but there's clearly winners and losers with this new talent system. Some specs are golden and some are half baked. /endrant
This is kind of insane to see a nerf to ST on a class that was middle of the pack at best. Really hope they revert this or buff it in other ways. Meanwhile enh, ww, bm, and feral have stayed top in every situation on beta for months.. Blizzard typical balancing i guess
So is no one going to mention how cursed that thumbnail is?
I don't see why they can't make every evoker ability castable while moving. Hover should be their quick mobility to get around the battlefield with their shorter range, not the means which enables castable mobility. Ele shaman used to have a glyph that made lightning bolt castable while moving, and destro could also cast incenerate while moving at one point. BM hunter is CURRENTLY a completely mobile ranged spec. I don't see why they cpuldnt have used this "Dragon" opportunity to introduce a fully mobile, actual caster, to coexist with BM hunter who uses mainly instant casts. This would offer ACTUAL unique gameplay and give a better reason to limit their range.
This will be the first time in Wow’s history that a new class is literally unplayable garbage on release correct?
Personally I agree that a change was needed but idk if this was the right path. It feels like it reverberated to much throughout the kit. I feel it would be better to tune what we had vs change it and not change synergies.
I appreciate somebody explaining the changes in depth. I even appreciate how he was able to see an upside and even pose alternatives. Bonus points since I have to wait until November 15th. And I really do want to give them a chance. Unfortunately, I think this is just the tip of the iceberg of what they need to fix since the novelty is going to wear off. And I imagine that it'll happen very quickly since I've only read about how just hard they get outclassed by everybody.
These changes have me really excited for when Dracthyr are playable on other classes.
