As for flying in BfA why such a long wait for Pathfinder 2 to be made live? We have just hit the eight month mark and still no date has been made as to when this will happen. By now all accounts should have at least one toon (or more) that has completed Pathfinder 1 and have all the reps to exalted for BfA to this point. I agree that there should not be a Pathfinder 2 and feel that it is nothing more then a royal pain in the butt.
Awesome. I can’t wait to get started on this
I have a perspective since late BC, and I REALLY enjoy flying (and even broader, riding) how it is right now.In BC, and later in WotLK, it was only a matter of MONEY. I remember vividly my desperation when I first hit 30, and was told I could get a MOUNT and stop running everywhere on my two troll feet. I went back to Sen'jin, only to learn the skill would set me back mere 35 gold. From my 1-30 trek, which back then could take a few days to complete,I earned a grand total of 3 gold, 35 silvers and 98 copper, net of travel, repair and training suitable to my level (including leatherworking and skinning professions). Hurt so much I still remember the numbers TODAY... the netherweave 16-slot bags were also an impossible luxury, costing 5g each,Flying mount, iirc, cost about 500 and was BC content.By the time I was approaching cap it was already WotLK and you theoretically could fly while leveling, if you already had a toon at cap, with flying and bought very expensive tome in Northrend Dalaran to send to your alt... again, MONEY. I was lucky, though. Glyphs were big back then, and you had hundreds of them to discover on a daily cooldown. I lucked to be one of two people on the server who lucked into discovering a mandatory paladin glyph that was in every guide out there on my second cooldown, while my scribe was still a lowbie working on AH mats... but those glyphs sold like hotcakes, and the two of us decided not to undercut and just post same amount for 10 gold each. We both still made a killing, and gold kept rolling in for us for a long, long time. But I digress.Back then, flying was basically just money, and it was bad. It also bred bad atmosphere. I remember vividly leveling, and seeing a fat node on my miner... running for it, picking 2 or 3 mobs... and then seeing someone just swoop in, taking node and flying away, leaving me with empty hands and mobs to fight. Current model puts everyone on equal footing for quite some time and it's healthy.Second part is exploration. You see, I do like freedom of exploration given by flight, but those months when we're grounded, I learn the lay of the land far better on my alts than if I could fly straight away. That way, once I CAN fly, it feels like a well-earned reward for playing the game, and its also a justified nerf to a content that you should know thoroughly if you earned flying. It just feels right, and I'm okay with it... as long as I do get my flying in the end.
I don't have a problem with a long quest line or even a grind to get back flying. My problem is they have never really established any lore reason for you not being able to fly in the first place and made the reputation grinds totally unrelated to getting flight back, so it just feels like an ability is being blocked for no apparent reason, then arbitrarily unblocked for an equally obscure reason. It would have been relatively simple to come up with even a flimsy lore reason such as the Troll Shaman and Storm Priests create high altitude winds to prevent sneak attacks from the air. A few favored folks are given charms to avoid these (the flightmasters). Then create a long quest line where you have to earn the favor of these groups and get a charm yourself, then you can fly as well. But no, instead it's just some random achievements and a rep grind with two random groups not even located on Kul Tiras and Zandalar.
Wow that mount's wings are so... bad. Flat 2d images.
Seriously, just stop with this. We've been playing the game for months. We're coming into the 3rd raid. Some of us just want to fly around and get our chores done easier to make our pots n flasks. The only reason this is even a thing is there was a mass exodus when Blizz said flying wouldn't be in future expansions. This is their idea of a compromise. Unfortunately this expansion isn't interesting enough for a lot of people to wait for it.
For anyone complaining about rep grind, just be glad there's no treasure-finding aspect.
I agree with him.As a new player who wants to level iron dwarfs (male) to experience the classes, it took me like a month getting legion and draenor pathfinders. Draenor was rough, finding 100 treasures was a pain and the reputation was even more tedious than legion and bfa. I just really hope they reduce the exp bar of 110 - 120, i think with heirlooms is not enough, i spent like 100k for that, and i only get the money from paragons, treasure maps and transmog from islands.
To be honest back in Wrath and older content you had to buy your flight, I was 80 long before I had made enough gold to pay for it. Rep grinding doesn't take near as long and won't bother me because I enjoy the content, plus I am getting a free mount to boot which was never a given in Wrath, I had to pay for every mount I had that gave me flight. Also something to think about, in Mist you not only had to reach max level but you had to get your rep with the Order of the Cloud serpents to exalted then pay 5k in gold. Which back then took months to do if you didn't like to grind. So I would just be thankful it is just to revered and not costing you an arm and a leg on top of it, plus as I stated you get a free mount, only way you got that in Mist was if you did the quest chain to raise your cloud serpent, otherwise you had to buy that as well.
I think the underlying problem is that the reward system is out of sync with objectives. That is what feels like grind, spinning your wheels and not getting anywhere. Example....You quest until the zone storylines are complete because you need those for Pathfinder. That's only about half of the quests, but you skip those because you want the Flightmaster Whistle and the first few rounds of world quests give better rewards than questing. You aren't at revered yet so you have to grind away at world quests or zone quests even though you don't get anymore upgrades. The war resources and AP don't feel gratifying. The raid groups don't want you because they consider your gear level too low. By the time you're able to buy everything from the Emissaries, you're already in better gear. Profs are the same. By the time you're able to craft the high end, you've outgrown it. I think Bliz wanted to remove flight because some complained about running out of content. They ganked portals for the same reason.I personally never run out of content because of my alts. Increasing commuter time does not make my game world larger. It becomes smaller because so much more of it is more inaccessible. Travel time is wasted time. You grab a bite from the kitchen or you twiddle your thumbs. You are not actively playing. Will I be doing archaeology on my low alts when they can't port any farther North in Eastern Kingdoms than Stormwind? Will I quest them in Kalimdor when they have to head South from Exodar? I don't mind meeting requirements for flying, but I would prefer those requirements to have some rewards of their own, not just useless busy work. Bliz keeps promoting new alts, but increasingly makes the game less alt friendly.
