The staggering amount of bots made gathering a terrible option.
"are gathering professions worth the time?" Short answer: Not anymore
Yes, for bots. They need to completely redesign what gathering means in WOW.
they just connected all realms together thats great for buyers but so bad for farmers
Figure out what makes skinning worse than herb/mining and finally fix it. It's always that way in ever xpac.I feel like Skinning is naturally going to be this way all the time, because of it's very nature. You can get those gathering mats naturally just by killing things, which you're going to be doing anyway while leveling and doing WQ's and the like. You don't have to go out of your way to get mats like you do with Herb and Mining. As a result, the law of supply and demand takes hold. More skins on the AH = lower prices for said skins. I'm not really sure how Blizz could change that, unless there's another part of the issue that I'm missing.
In short "Waaaah why can't I use my botting script for the Dragon Isles like I can everywhere else"
They don't want to get rid of bots - bots are subs. bots drive the economy down, and the AH changes have made making gold via professions mostly worthless so you buy tokens. Blizz has stated so many times over the years that they don't want people making a lot of gold with professions and they finally found the ultimate solution.
I hate a lot of the takes here - a lot of classic andies wishing for old school gathering just need to stop living in the past.Df's gathering system is great. The reason prices are down now is because it's the middle of a dead season where gearing was incredibly easy - Anyone trying to sell their materials now is a fool. If you're not putting it in the bank and waiting for 10.2 you're not even trying.Blizzard has refused to expand the profession knowledge trees, so anyone who was trying has been maxed out for MONTHS. There's no excuse not to have at least one finished profession. I'm maxed on nearly all of them, Blacksmithing is taking longer because it's got a few hundred potential points more than the others.TBH The Shadowlands Legendary economy was one of the best we ever had. The extreme demand on those items caused all the materials to be in demand, caused all the prices to be awesome for crafters and gatherers. But Raid Loggers think they shouldn't have to interact with gold at all, And so the system was destroyed. All I want for 11.0 is the EXACT SAME PROFESSION SYSTEM, only this time, Blizzard needs to prevent people from exploiting extra rep/knowledge/mettle progression, because that basically ruined Dragonflight's iteration. We were supposed to take so much longer to get to max rank items, but because cheaters got there overnight, peoples perception and expectations of crafting were ruined. And anyone who didn't cheat fell behind, while the cheaters got monopolies in key items like the Lariat early on. Because of all this scuff and complaints, Blizzard seems to have more or less abandoned the professions at this point, which really sucks.
Materials should have bottlenecks, currently you can play Jesus and multiply herbs and ores by multiboxing or botting, plus the AH being region wide it just exacerbates it.Blizz also needs to get rid of multicraft and resourcefulness as stats, all they do is prevent materials from leaving the game, dropping prices to near below cost. It's just not fun to craft when you have to play Industrial Revolution Tycoon to even make a dent of profits.
the downside to farming to earn gold rather than buying gold with cash is that you've basically given yourself a part time job where you're earning about a dollar to a dollar and a half an hour. You'd make more money putting in some headphones and collecting cans for recycling, and then buying gold. You'd be getting exercise, helping your local area get rid of some litter, and helping out some one else by buying their gold.
"are any professions worth the time in DF after 10.0?" is the better question. Blizz totally bungled the profession revamp. One of the worst decisions in the game's history. Great in theory (skill trees for profs), but the crafting table ruins the whole f***ing thing.
i really enjoyed herbing/mining at the start of the xpac but now with all the competition from realms like illidan & a52, it gets to be not worth your time pretty quick. i used to be able to make money for much longer on my med pop realm in SL. also i disagree with the other commenters that want more simplicity. the little quirks they've put into the professions are much more fun and engaging than the basic gathering from the past. i also think that people who put in a lot of effort with knowledge should be more rewarded than someone just starting out.
I have always been an herbalist. I actually enjoy spending time just gathering herbs. It's been my go to money maker in every expansion except this one and the dreadful WOD.My biggest complaint this go around is the way they made Hochenblume the default herb that may or may not come back as something else. Writhebark only shows up in a few areas and it's a bear to farm.If they wanted to get rid of bots, they would have to come up with a dynamic spawn system. As long as players can map out where the spawn points are, it's pretty easy to bot the system. The global AH has been a disaster for small guys like me. At a certain point, they will have to realize there are a lot more players like me than there are bots. Tailoring the game to the 1% won't end well.
I can make 5k in 2minutes or less by sitting in town and crafting an item for someone. Unless they give us a good reason to do gathering professions, I will not be taking gathering professions ever.
I am not much of a crafter but the gathering is annoying because of the ranks/"quality". I hope it goes away. I prefered it when it was simple. The ranks of quality adds something I am not interested in. I just want to pick up a piece of herb and craft my pot not......well, it kinda sucks now you can cast only rank 2 because the herb you have is rank 2. At the end of the road having to farm more to craft rank 3 it achieve the same thing as asking more mats to craft a higher quality pot. Just make it 1 rank, 1 type.....I dont care about complexity. I just want to pick up my peacebloom and craft my healthpot and not pick up rank 2 peacebloom and craft rank 2 health pot. Just ask 100 peacebloom for the best rank instead of asking 10 rank 3 peaceblooms. You're going to farm roughly the same anyway. Just let me know how much and not give me RNG maybe its a rank 3 herb, maybe its not and if its not well, you can always use the rank 2 ones. Its an unnecessary complication.
