It's not gating you from a major form of power. It's not like you get nothing in return. You go from 100% to 75%, maybe at the very least 50% or where you were. You guys are all looking at this in an "all or nothing" kind of way, where if it aint the best it is the worst. That's not the correct way of looking at things. Using that lens, like I said before just delete every spec and make literally 3 classes; a tank, a healer and a damage dealer. Literally, that's all you need for all or nothing. There has to be differences, there has to be meaning in what you choose and not going "i can just re-do this willy nilly." Like, no, that's not how life works and that's not how games should work either. You pick and you choose, then whatever you don't have the ability for your team makes up for it. That's how life is, that's how games that are MMOs are.
Ah, so this is the new power system for the expac. So it's not alt friendly after all, is it? I assume these are all consumed on use, bound to one character only type thing. WHY does Blizz have to put in these dumb systems every expansion? Remember when we just played the game and had loot drops and currency to buy loot? The Blizz numbskulls have to dig for attention every expansion with who has the greatest new idea. I bet sitting at their conference table having planning meetings is like war of the nerds.
The more stuff Blizzard brings into the game, the less useful sims will be.The easiest example: Warrior Venthyr versus Warrior Necrolords. You can't sim for the difference. It's just not possible.People will still sim those two things. And Venthyr will give you much better sims. But only for yourself. Yes, you are goingto do more DPS yourself with double the executes (and probably get some tanks to hate you, as an early execute is just so much more likely to get the target hitting you instead of the tank. Especially if you pull more than 1-2 targets and don't hit the main target of the tank). The Necrolords ability will sim for less, because it's just a short tempo buff, that the sims care about. What no sim cares about: You buffing the rest of the group. 4 other people getting 50% more tempo is a huge thing, especially on such a low timer. If you have one warriors, that's like having multiple bloodlusts. Not to mention you could also use it for those 20% max HP as well, as that might make a difference with certain boss abilities. But all those min-maxers will take Venthyr, because it will sim the highest, instead of thinking at all.
If they make a new system, it should be apart of the character not on a piece of gear. Should be permanent, not something that disappears after the xpac. It should increase raw stats. For example health% raw dps increase, damage mitigation. Each area should be same type increases so matters not which covenant you choose. You are choosing story and aesthetics. That should drive any new expansion. Not which way allows you kill someone or get through content faster. All that should come from gear. Azerite was a failed system. Artifact weapons were not much better. Giving people an endless grind will make them want to play less. Give them content to grind i.e. mythic raiding, mythic plus, the new endless tower. Pets to grind, alts to raise, new puzzles solve. Not this endless AP grind. That is not fun. Who wants to grind endless AP with really nothing show for it only to disappear on the next content drop or next xpac. Or use catch up mechanic to catch new players and alts up. Let's get rid of AP grind. Do not make it this endless grind on piece of gear that that is locked behind weeks or months of grind. That cannot be changed out. Or failed armour system that is determined by random if you get the piece you really want or need to compete with.
that's interesting thing. By the way thank you. maybe i should try this out my self.
will the soulbound effects still be in effect in dungeons and raids? or is it just for open world?
Issue is in the community with things like Rio and parses being king, which cascades down through the different groups, ie full bis set up is expected for a +10-15 for a lot of pugs, so adding a way to mitigate fallout with swapping ie, tying the abilities to rep, where you can only prog it while "champion" with that rep, but you don't lose progress by swapping would be the most sensible thing it seems like to do. Ie i don't need to be in full bis set up to do the content I do, but I prefer to at least have the ability to do it w/o forfeiting progress I've done in another content, and currently in more able to do that with essences/azerite then how this sounds
Dont you think this system has too much variables and interactions to actually find "The best iteration" ? I think we'll end to have a lot of freedom with this system because of that. Even with simulations i doubt we can find an unique path to optimize our toon.
What they should do with these coveneant abilities make them so they only boost you in the outside world and do nothing in Raids of Dungeons. Like giving you some sort of travel perk, armour cosmetic, mount, bonus to resource gathering or bonus damage when questing in the outdoor world of shadowlands. Surely this would make choosing a coveneant not imba for end game content.
