Here's my prediction of all things Blizzard.Warcraft has 1 more expansion. All good things must come to an end, as they say, and WoW is no exception. Blizzard knows this and I think this is where the "next gen mmo" that's in development comes in. When the time comes, Blizzard will want to siphon all the players from WoW to the next Blizzard game. I still love WoW--I'm no hater--but I believe the game won't last but ~4 more years; which is still a very long time for one game to stay immensely popular. At this point, they release Warcraft IV which will continue the WoW story lines and characters. I don't really think WIV makes sense until this as anything concurrent with WoW would be awkward or a complete departure from what the players are likely to want (like a story line in the past when most races aren't even known).I also don't think WIV will be forthcoming in the RTS genre unless Starcraft proves the RTS is still a popular genre (I can't think of many recent games in this format). At this point, it may be time for Diablo IV since I'm sure Diablo III will do well. Just my thoughts
World of Star-ablo-craft
Just my thoughts, but not as many roleplayers are into a rts compared to a mmorpg. I could see less focus on lore and more of a push towards playable races and maps for warcraft 4. Pick out a few important battles or storylines and add some unlockable content. Create a new continent that will crossover to a future WoW expansion. When I play a rts, its more about completing the level with lore/story adding a flow to the game.
i cant really agree with the 2nd once since warcraft 3 was already pretty much a prequel to wow
i'd like a remake of the first Warcraft (orcs and humans) and an expansion for that one, with deep storylines, for lore-interested players.BUT, your second possibility would be the best for me.
I think your second option would be best. A prequel to WoW, or even a prequel to War1 would be the best option for lore-interested players. War of the Ancients, Orcs & Humans remake, or any previous part of the storyline, all of the endless possibilities for a jump into the past seem great.
I for one would like to see taurens riding around on hydralisks while shooting gaus cannons
