Best bet is for an addon maker strike on their, but I suspect that the chinese client will just steal current versions from NA and EU because they love to do that.
So, we are gonna skip the part that a company copies the work of original creators and makes money without compensating them and we are just gonna fight over the percentage of the Chinese population speaking English?
WowUp, Cursebreaker, and Ajour are all open-source. There are a lot of Chinese people, they could easily submit localization patches and I have no doubt the developers would accept them.Rehosting addons in China and localizing all those addons is another story. The hosting costs some money (not much though, not in 2021) but addon localization is an enormous daunting task. Then again it is China after all, they could just rip off all the localized addons from Tao Le Dou and nobody would bat an eye.
There is the added stumbling block to using Chinese for communication outside China, the minimum 2-3000 characters you need to know to have a basic dialogue but it is actually a bit over 8000 to have an intelligent discussion..
Product provides a valuable service, product decides to make money for providing a valuable service. People cry about it.The Chinese are becoming more like westerners and don't even realize it.
I still have no idea why a lot of the addons that are currently used haven't been simply built into the game as functionality. Especially something like MDT. I assume they'll never build something like BigWigs/DBM into the game because they're trying to fool people who use them it seems to begin with but there are so many of these addons that should be part of the interface already.
Why not just make their own addons or translations instead of relying on western sources and all the hurdles required to get to them?
Making their own addons is ridiculous. Why reinvent the wheel? And they are making their own translations, that's the primary service that site provides.
